About Us

US Magnetics is a veteran-owned small business under the direction of Ralph Livingstone. Our office is located in the industrial district within the city of Lancaster, California. With our partner companies Millennium Power Systems and Preferred Chassis Fabrication, we design and manufacture military and industrial power conversion and flightline support products. Our staff has over 100 years of combined engineering experience in power electronics. Our products include Transformers, Power Supplies, Battery Chargers, Transformer-Rectifier Units (TRU) and Portable Flightline and Motor Pool Power Sources. We also offer consulting services in the fields of magnetics and power electronics.

IMG_5We offer turnkey production documentation and setup, manufacturing process oversight and training, and reverse-engineering services on obsolete components or systems. We also assist companies in their research and development projects – helping to free up their in-house technical resources for production support activities. We are willing and able to travel to customer sites to assist in project planning, training, next-level interface and system optimization, R&D or troubleshooting.

Ralph Livingstone has worked for over 40 years in the transformer and power electronics manufacturing industries, serving most recently for over 15 years as Chief Engineer of a respected AS9100C defense contractor. He has successfully designed advanced power-related products and managed manufacturing projects for a variety of military and industrial applications, including fixed and rotary winged aircraft; hybrid airships; missiles; satellites; surface ships and submarines; unmanned systems; military and civilian ground vehicles; medical equipment; trains and airport ground installations.

He has planned and overseen the qualification process for numerous projects to general specifications such as MIL-PRF-27; RTCA DO-160; MIL-S-901; UL544; MIL-STD-461; MIL-STD-810; MIL-STD-454; MIL-STD-202 – as well as to specific customer and program specifications.

He is skilled in assisting and guiding customers in the specification preparation process, and has regularly interfaced directly with both vendors’ and customers’ technical personnel during the quotation, development, manufacturing and testing phases of complex projects. He is experienced in the preparation of formal proposals and Technical Provisioning Packages. He currently has patents pending in the field of magnetics technology.

Ralph has been involved since 2006 as a member of Team Scorpion – helping to develop a fully autonomous robotic off-road vehicle with team leader Preferred Chassis Fabrication of Tucson, Arizona. He is actively involved as a volunteer supporting STEM education in the fields of robotics, science and technology. He is also the inventor of a new technology in electric guitar pickups – currently being developed for production and marketed under the brand name Stinger®.
